Maruti Suzuki Swift, baleno and Dzire S-CNG AMT
Maruti Suzuki has officially introduced 5-speed Automated Manual Transmission (AMT/AGS) options across its factory-fitted S-CNG portfolio for three of its highest-selling models: the Swift, Dzire, and Baleno.
Unveiled under the brand’s Auto Green Mission initiative, this launch directly targets urban drivers who want the ultra-low running costs of natural gas without sacrificing the two-pedal convenience needed for bumper-to-bumper city commuting.
The Dzire leads the pack with an exceptional fuel efficiency rating exceeding 36 km/kg, while the Swift sets an accessible entry price point starting under ₹8 lakh.
| Model | Claimed Mileage (ARAI) | Starting Price (Ex-Showroom) |
| Maruti Suzuki Swift S-CNG AMT | 35.34 km/kg | ₹7.92 Lakh |
| Maruti Suzuki Baleno S-CNG AMT | 34.47 km/kg | ₹8.32 Lakh |
| Maruti Suzuki Dzire S-CNG AMT | 36.47 km/kg | ₹8.53 Lakh |
(Note: Prices reflect introductory launch figures across select mid-spec variants, including Delta and Zeta trims.)
All three vehicles pair the automated transmission directly to Maruti’s latest-generation 1.2-litre Z-Series engine featuring Dual VVT and Idle Start-Stop (ISS) technology.
The engine management system seamlessly switches mapping between gasoline and CNG modes, calibrating AMT shift actuators to minimize the typical “shift shock” associated with automated manuals.
Each vehicle retains Maruti’s integrated stainless-steel piping, leak-detection sensors, and a microswitch interlock that inhibits ignition while the CNG filler lid remains open
In CNG mode, the powertrain outputs dependable mid-range torque calibrated for crawl functionality (creep mode), aiding hill starts and traffic maneuvering without clutch pedal wear.
Until recently, purchasing a factory-fitted CNG car in India almost universally required driving a manual gearbox. While competitors like Tata Motors broke this barrier with the Tiago and Tigor iCNG AMT, Maruti Suzuki’s rollout brings automatic CNG convenience to three segment-defining leaders.
With Maruti Suzuki recording sharp year-on-year growth in alternative fuel segments, the introduction of S-CNG AMT variants removes the final compromise between fuel economy and driving ease. Bookings are now open across Maruti Suzuki Arena (Swift, Dzire) and Nexa (Baleno) dealerships nationwide.
Maruti Suzuki offers the 5-speed AMT (AGS) paired with factory-fitted S-CNG on three models: the Swift, Dzire, and Baleno.
Prices start at ₹7.92 Lakh for the Swift S-CNG AMT, ₹8.32 Lakh for the Baleno S-CNG AMT, and ₹8.53 Lakh for the Dzire S-CNG AMT (introductory ex-showroom).
ARAI-certified fuel economy figures are:
Maruti Dzire CNG AMT: 36.47 km/kg
Maruti Swift CNG AMT: 35.34 km/kg
Maruti Baleno CNG AMT: 34.47 km/kg
All three cars use Maruti’s 1.2-litre Z-Series engine featuring Dual VVT and Idle Start-Stop (ISS) technology, calibrated with a dual-ECU setup for smooth automatic shifting in both petrol and CNG modes
While Tata Motors pioneered the segment with the Tiago and Tigor iCNG AMT (using dual-cylinder underfloor packaging), Maruti’s S-CNG AMT models deliver significantly higher fuel efficiency (over 34–36 km/kg vs. ~28 km/kg) and bring automatic CNG options to the premium hatchback segment via the Baleno.
